Lt.(N) Robert Hampton Gray VC Memorial Bursary

The Robert Hampton Gray VC Memorial Bursary is an annual scholarship offered by the Naval Association of Canada (NAC) - Calgary Branch. This bursary honors the memory of Lieutenant Robert Hampton Gray, a distinguished Canadian naval officer who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery during World War II.

Lt.(N) Gray, who served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve, displayed extraordinary courage in the Pacific War, particularly during the Battle of Okinawa.

His legacy is celebrated through this bursary, which supports full-time students from Alberta, providing financial assistance to those demonstrating financial need and a commitment to their studies.

The bursary not only helps students achieve their academic goals but also keeps Lt.(N) Gray's heroic spirit alive, inspiring future generations to embody the values of courage, dedication, and service to their country.

This $2,000 bursary is awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in a recognized post-secondary academic institution. It is open to current members of the Royal Canadian Navy, Sea Cadets, and Navy League officers. Past members of these groups can also apply and may sponsor their sons, daughters, and grandchildren. Specific criteria are listed in the application form.

The award is granted based on the applicant’s demonstrated financial need and the accurate completion of the attached Bursary application form.

Applications must be submitted to scholarship@naccalgary.ca by no later than March 31, 2025.

All applications will be reviewed by a specified review panel from the NAC – Calgary Branch, and the selected recipients will be contacted by the NAC-Calgary Branch.
